A New, Smaller 2.0-liter flat-4 with 148 horsepower powers the 2012 Impreza. All-wheel drive Will be standard, and transmission choices include a five-speed manual and a new CVT (continuously variable automatic transmission). Subaru fuel mileage estimates for the CVT-equipped Impreza at 27 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, dropping to 25/33 with the five-speed manual. Check back later for more details, driving impressions and buying advice complete once the newly redesigned 2012 Subaru Impreza hits the road.

Subaru Impreza unveiled the 2012 model successor to its best-selling Impreza at the New York Auto Show today, the which Will Arrive in showrooms this fall. With a new dual-cam design and variable intake and exhaust timing, the engine produces 148 bhp at 6200 rpm and 145 lb.-ft. of torque, the which peaks at 4200 rpm. Depending on if you get the 5-speed manual or the CVT (available with steering wheel shift paddles), the Impreza's center differential Will either be a viscous coupling or an electronically managed clutch-type, respectively; Both have a torque split of 50 / 50 front to rear and can transfer 100 percent of available torque to either set of wheels under slippage.

For suspension, Both 4 and 5-door models retain Their double-wishbone rear setups and MacPherson struts in front, although Various improvements in bushings and mounts pillowball help to better locate the chassis. This comes standard on the higher trim of the 2012 Subaru Impreza models, the which also get a rear anti-roll bar.
